keep on Roger... an unforgettable moment back in the 60's when a friend and I came by your house. He played alto and I was a drummer. I was living on Armandale. You and he played "I remember April" We went back my house and sat there totally speechless. You blew us away. So I know now you are "dangerous" as can be. Keep on swinging

Hello Mr. Humphries,
I just read your interview in Modern Drummer. I didn't know we had such agreat musician so accessable to the public. If my drum teacher and I make a trek down to pittsburgh to see you play, is there a chance I could meet you before or after the show? And possible get a pic and autograph?
I so appreciate the working musician who has such dedication to their family.
Thanks,
Mr. Tracy Thurston

Hi Roger, I'm not sure if you remember me I was one of the drummers at
Allegheny High School class of Feb.1960 I read Modern Drummer Maz. and Holy Cow I saw the artical on you. WoW!! what a career!! I stoped playing in 1964. Then in 1997 I joined the New Horizen Band as a re-leaner. I'm having the time of my life. I'm "jealous as hell" man what talent!! I left town in 1967 and lost toutch with my band friends. I always wanted to know what happened to that "Humphries" kid "he was really good"??......Well Now I know. I've got to get your albms!! Howard. I cant wait to tell Bill Numer (the other drummer in the school band). LOL

I am ashamed to admit that it took me 11 years after moving to Pittsburgh to finally see you play live. I had the pleasure of seeing you at the intimate Sweetwater Center along with your fantastic band. I was especially impressed by your young pianist Brett Williams. He is a rare talent whose career I will follow.

It was an honor attending a school where a legend like you teaches, mentors and nourishes the musical nature of young children. Years ago, you honored me with The Roger Humphries Sr. Scholarship in 2007 and now I am about to graduate from college! Thank you so much for helping me further my education through music!
Please support my music and check out my website: www.musicbycasaundra.com
Once again,
Thank you and God bless!

Today while listening to the Minneapolis Minnesota jazz radio station WKBEM they played the song, One by One from the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy 21st Century Swing Band CD. I was blown away. Roger you really did Art Blakey justice. I will purchase this CD ASAP and advice all my friends to do the same. I can’t tell you how proud and elated I was to hear how tight the big band was. I hope this recording gets greater air play and it will if I have anything to do with it.

As a vocalist with my own band for 22 years/attended Carlow for Music when John Lively was there. I've enjoyed this web site and I intend on visiting again. I used to hit the Balcony Monday nights with friends years ago and miss this venue. I grew up on this type of music because my parents has their own orchestra back in the 40's. The Louise Tyke Orchestra played on WTAE and KDKA! PLease check out my www.myspace.com/1rockheart www.rokkheart.com

What an extraordinary evening of music you provided last night at C.J.'s. I loved every minute of it. As I always say: you're the bright musical flame that all the fine musicians are drawn to. At one time there must have been 12 or 13 on the stage at one time. Marvelous!

I would like to let you know how much I enjoyed the music last Thursday (Oct. 15th) I was in town from Detroit. As it turns out I ended up running into friends I haven't seen in a long time. My husband Russ Miller is a Prof. of Jazz studies at Wayne State University in Detroit and was the lead alto with someone I'm sure you probably know, JC Heard up until he passed. Bill Heid, George & Russ go way back as well, and Russ told me that Bill and George spoke with GREAT admiration for you over the years. It was a gas watching you play and showcasing the young players you've mentored. FANTASTIC!!! It would be great to bring you to Detroit for a clinic or concert at Wayne State as guest artist or something along those lines. I would love to make that connection if you'd be interested. I can't wait for my next visit to Pittsburg. You are magnificent and I love what you are doing!!!
Sincerly,
Jeannine Miller
